The Nine Eagles Solo Pro 260a v2 was my first fixed pitch heli, having flown only 4ch coaxials until then. For me this was quite an eye opener about how quickly it could move and get out of sorts. But this is definitely a worthwhile step, preparing you for flybarless fixed pitch and/or collective pitch helis.

The SP 260a has a relatively steady hover but can move quite quickly. Letting go of the sticks too abruptly tends to cause a rocking motion before stopping. This can be addressed by smooth stick movements. It also has a tendency to move forward on right turns and backwards on left turns. This is due to the tail rotor configuration. With practice you can counter this by coordinating small elevator stick movements.

 

High and low rates available, accessed by pressing down on the right stick. On high rates this heli will fly in a light breeze, but although controllable, in stiffer wind it quickly becomes a kite. Wind surfing can be fun, though.

 

Parts seem to have inconsistent quality, some can break easily while others are fine. Parts are inexpensive. If flying the 260a in stock form, minimum recommended spare parts are:

 

• landing gear (inconsistent quality)

• swashplate

• main shaft

• flybar

• tail boom with motor

• canopy (cracks easily)

• blades (optional - I never broke any)
