Hobbyzone Spacewalker

Videos Below:

The Hobbyzone Spacewalker is a low wing intermediate airplane with stable flight characteristics. It is a small step up in difficulty from the Champ, and also a bit faster. The 3ch controls are straight forward, with THR, ELE and RUD. Construction appears to be not as robust, however. Takeoffs are straight forward with throttle and slight up ELE. Landings can be done dead stick but are smoother with a touch of throttle.

It can be flown in a large yard or small park, I fly in my cul-de-sac. My setup on the Walkera Devo 10 transmitter with Deviation software provides full proportional control and smooth handling characteristics. I set it up so both the AIL & RUD sticks are able to control the RUD.

The only issues I have experienced:

  • The slightest tap or bump on the canopy can cause it to come off. I have re-glued it with CA a few times and the (foam safe) Gorilla glue now seems to be holding.

  • The rear rudder and elevator plastic links are very thin and flexible, somewhat reducing precision.

  • Those tiny wheels can cause nose-overs on rough ground or asphalt. I replaced them with Dubro 1" Mini Lites. Just carefully remove the little discs holding the wheels on. Gently turning them on the wire mount will loosen them. Remove both the inner and outer disc, install the new wheel, reinstall only the outer disc and secure with a drop of Gorilla Glue. Do not get any on the wheel!

With the new slightly heavier wheels and a larger 120mah battery fully forward, the Spacewalker takes off, flys, and lands, much smoother.
